On the coin the columns are placed close oneither flank, and two are omitted, to show the seated statue ofJupiter in the temple, which statue is now in the Hall of Busts inthe Vatican Museum, and is a copy of the celebrated Jupiter ofPhidias. The fact that the Pantheon was originally built as a sudatoriumhas been proved to a certainty by the excavations made in the suda-torium of the Baths of Caracalla.
