Between the lips is the buccal orifice, which extends between the angles ofthe mouth. In harelip operations and after excision of a large segment of the lip inremoving an epithelioma, the mobility and elasticity of the lips, particularly ofthe lower lip, allow aj^proximation of the edges of the wound. The lymphatics from the median portion of the lower liji pass to a lymphaticgland situated just above the body of the h3oid bone ; those from the lateral por-tions pass to the submaxillary lymphatic glands, into which the lymphatics of theupper lip also empty.
