Illustration from an early edition "Punch" magazine by Ebenezer Landells, 1841: Candidates Under Different Phases; 19th century black and white illustration; Punch Magazine, or The London Charivari was a ground-breaking British magazine of popular humour and political and social satire. Often critical of the ruling classes it was unafraid, in a time where deferrence was often the norm, to lampoon the antics of politicians, monarchs and nobility. Ebenezer Landells was one of the founders of Punch Magazine.
