Antibiotic crystals. Coloured canning electron micrograph (SEM) of crystals of the antibiotic Doxycycline. This drug is a member of the tetracycline antibiotics group that was invented and developed in the early 1960s. It is commonly used to treat all forms of anthrax infections, sexually transmitted bacterial infections such as chlamydia and gonorrhea, and acne. Doxycycline is also used as a prophylaxis against malaria.
