( × cm), Paintings, Sesson Shūkei (ca. 1504–ca. 1589), During the turbulent years of the beginning of the Western Jin dynasty (265–317), a group of seven literati secluded themselves in a bamboo grove outside the capital. They drank wine, engaged in a witty, “pure” Daoist discourse called qingtan, and, judging from this exuberant portrayal by Sesson Shūkei, played music and sang and danced wildly in the company of equally ebullient women and children
