Allied prisoners marching along a road , Russia, 1942. Between 4 and million Russian soldiers were captured by the Germans in World War II. The Nazis regarded them as racially inferior and their treatment was extremely harsh, with many forced to work as slave labour. An estimated to million Soviet POWs died in German captivity.
