A helmet for officers of the Gendarmerie of the Guard, Maison du Roi, Louis XVIII, period of the First Restoration (1814) Black leather body, with gilt mountings, black horsehair crest (loose), gilt stamped emblem bearing the French crowned coat of arms, lightning bolts, and the scroll "Quo jubet iratus Jupiter", incomplete metal chinscales on gorgon heads, and heavily damaged leather lining. The leather skull is somewhat deformed, a crack on the rear peak, and the feather plume is missing.
