He bears a high repuiation among his fellow-citizens, andduring the past eight years has occupiedthe honorable and responsible office ofCounty Oommisaioner in Darke County,and has discharged the duties of thatposition to the satisfaction of hie con-stituentK. John S., the subject of thissketch, attended the common schools ofhis native county, includng the publicscliool at Versailles, Ohio, and the highschool at Greenville, Ohio. In 1872,he began teaching school, and was thu?eigBged for eighteen months. In ^^ .X) spring of 1873, he began the study ofmedicine under the instruction of hisbrother-in-iaw, Dr. J. E. Proctor, ofVersailles, Ohio, and spent the winterof 1875 and 1876 in attending lecturesat the Ohio Medical College, the spring of 1876, he entered uponthe practice of his profession at Spar-tansburg, Randolph Co., Ind., where hestill continues to reside. Fortunately,he located in a place ready for a compe-tent representative of the medical pro-fession, ai<d was introduced almost im-mediately into an extensive practice,which, in the meantime, he has greatlyenlarged by his prompt and faithful at-rondance upon his patients, his skilland his successful treatment of their ills,&? well by his genial presence andguutlomauly deportment.
