Unique medieval painted wooden panels by Friulian masters in ceiling of St Leonard's church, Breg ob Kokri, Preddvor, Gorenjska region, Slovenia
One of the best preserved medieval church interiors in Slovenia, and the only one of its kind with wooden painted panels. 30 individual scenes painted in 1470-1480 lay hidden for almost 500 years behind a false ceiling. The pictures, by Friulian masters of Senicno, and discovered in 1971, depict scenes from the life of Christ and Mary. The church, in a remote rural village, also features a triumphal arch and gilded altar. One of the original painted glass windows was stolen in recent times.
