. 4 Battalion (attached 11 Battalion), East Yorkshire Regiment Lt Van Oppen enlisted in August 1914 and received his commission in September 1915, rising to the rank of lieutenant in July 1917. He was posted to the Western Front on 6 April 1918; was wounded on 12 April and died in hospital, aged 31, on 16 April 1918 - just ten days after arriving at the front.
