Face of a foetus. Doppler ultrasound scan of the head of a human foetus in profile, at 22 weeks of pregnancy ( months). The face is completely human, with fully developed lips and nose seen. Eyelids and external ears, although not visible here, have developed. Eyebrows, at this stage, are also present and a fine hair has developed on the head. The crown-rump length (sitting height) of the foetus is about 21cm and its weight some 600 grams. The head of a foetus at this age is proportionately large compared to its body. Doppler ultrasound uses high-frequency sound to detect whether foetal development is normal, and can register moving particles like blood or urine.
