Abutment showing the flexible steel rods pin to accommodate tidal movement. It is the longest floating bridge in the World without lateral anchorages. The fjord is over 320m deep so lateral stability is achieved by making the bridge curved in plan so that it acts as a two pin arch in the horizontal plane. Overall length is 933m and the floating section is 845m long. There are 7 oval lightweight concrete pontoons supporting the tubular steel truss bridge structure which carries the deck above sea level. Krifast is the name of the project providing a fixed connection from Kristiansund and Frei to the mainland.
