Miniature implantable LED light in finger. A thin ribbon containing electrodes, sensors and a light emitting diode (LED). The device has been used as an implant into the brains of mice for neuroscience research. Light from the device stimulates specific neural pathways within the mice brain. The device demonstrates the possibility of micro-sized electronics that can be injected into deep tissue without causing as much damage as conventional electronics. Built by the Rogers Research Group, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
