Its brightest star is the 1st magnitude, red giant star Aldebaran, seen here just below centre & with an orange tint. Taurus is a very ancient constellation, possibly deriving from bull worship in early Mediterranean civilisations In Greek mythology, Taurus was the snow-white bull which carried Europa off, only to be revealed as Zeus in disguise. The Sun is in Taurus from 20 April to 20 May.
