A train prepares to leave Arcow Quarry siding, Helwith Bridge, North Yorkshire, with a load of crushed stone.
Situated in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Arcow and Dry Rigg Quarries lacked a connection to the adjacent Settle-Carlisle railway line. The result was a lot of heavy lorries passing through neighbouring towns and villages. However, in 2016 new railway sidings were opened, allowing stone to be taken out by train from Arcow Quarry, including stone brought over by lorry from the neighbouring Dry Rigg Quaary.
