Caldwell, who presented it to his daughteras a bridal gift. Mary Caldwell Davidson had a family of nine children,three of whom are yet living. Two sons died in infancy andone daughter soon after reaching maturity. Charles P. Ilansell, ofThomasville, Ga. Joseph Malcolm, Jr., and Benjamin Howard died in in-fancy, and Eloise, a beautiful girl like unto her mother, diedsoon after she readied maturity. Sarah Josephine, author and poet, married Thomas ButlerMallard, of Atlanta, Ga. She was born April, 1869, in Char-lotte, N. C, and educated at the Presbyterian College forWomen, now Queens College, of that city. Mrs. Mallard man-ifested in early life a taste for literature, and becoming a closestudent, later on richly developed her literary career.
