Malieveld, The Hague, The Netherlands. Saturday 6th June, 2020. This is the second such demonstration in as many weeks. The demonstration held last Saturday on the Koekamp, in The Hague was brought to an abrupt end by Acting Mayor Johan Kemkes; when the number of permitted demonstrator’s had exceeded the government guideline of a socially-distanced 30. Their argument today: “If the government had permitted a gathering of (5000) demonstrators on the Dam Square in Amsterdam, then we too can gather in mass.” But repercussions will follow the Amsterdam incident, as it was physically impossible to socially-distance such a large group in such a confined space. A similar demonstration on Wednesday in Rotterdam after a change of venue, was also brought to an end due to (Covid-19) safety standards. The Rotterdam and Amsterdam demo’s, the latter being on Monday 1st June in support of: ‘Black Lives Matter’. Today’s gathering again is to denounce Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s policy on the handling of the (Covid-19) pandemic. The pandemic is seen by some as government propaganda and that this pandemic is no more than an out of season Flu. And, by others as an excuse to infringe on Civil Liberties and Democracy at large. With some believing that when the pandemic subsides, policies will remain, also the contradictory advice given by the government, the compulsory wearing of facial masks on all public transport and the forced inoculation to be administered to all when a (Covid-19) vaccine is found also, the policy of social-distancing and the list goes on. The government lockdown has eased considerably since the Monday 1st June, 2020. RIVM: National Institute for Public Health and the Environment. Latest figures: Positive tested persons: 47,335. Admitted to hospital: 11,785. Reported deaths:6,011. © Charles M Vella/Alamy Live News
