The elegant Catalina Casino is a landmark and major tourist attraction in the seaside village of Avalon on Santa Catalina Island that is 22 miles (35 kilometers) from the coast of Southern California, USA. The round building opened in 1929 with a ballroom on its top floor that can hold 3,000 dancers. The bottom floor features a 1,154-seat movie theater, and was once home to the Catalina Island Museum. The island's owner, chewing-gum magnate William Wrigley Jr., constructed this $2-million Art Deco showplace that has no gambling but is a popular gathering place for the community and visitors.
