Barthelemy Faujas de Saint-Fond (1741-1819), French geologist. Saint-Fond worked on the geology of the Alps, recognising the volcanic nature of some of the deposits there and elsewhere in the world. Saint-Fond also opened a public subscription to finance research into balloon flights carried out by Jacques Alexandre Charles in 1783. He also took an interest in the balloon experiments carried out by the Montgolfier brothers.
