Theselections from Wagner have been arranged by OttoSinger, and cover every opera from Rienzi to Parsi-fal, making a total of twenty-five numbers. There isan introduction by Richard Aldrich, and the frontis-piece is a portrait of the composer reproduced from thelast photograph ever taken of him. The negro melodies. GEOKGE SYLVESTER VIEKECK. are transcribed for the piano by S. ai-e twenty-four transcriptions of folk-melodies,both African and American, as themes for com-positions in the style of fantasias. Mr. Coleridge-Taylorhas preserved the distinctive traits of these melodies,but has given them form and structure. There is a briefbiographical introduction by Booker T. Washington. BOOKS OF REFERENCE. Tlie current issue of that most useful volume, TheStatesinans Year-Book, is the forty-second annualpublication (Macmillan). Dr. J. Scott Keltie, the edi-tor, has improved this annual from year to year, andthe issue for 1905 is tlie best yet. Some of the improve-ments especially valuable are those in the way of sub-division and detailed information. For example, theCommonwealth of Australia is now treated is aiso a recasting and revision of Anglo-Frenchrelations, with particular reference to the conventionof 1904
