The upper drum can be opened in four places to show the gear consisting of horizontal and a pair of inclined gear wheels, which transfers the movement of the upper drum in a ratio of 11/1 in the reverse direction to the lower drum. There is a keyhole just below the head of the upper drum, but the key is missing, so its function is not outdated.
