In 1885 he became a member of the firmof Denton, Breuchaud, & Co., contractors onthe new Croton Aqueduct, New York, 1885-86; next was constructing engineer with theUnited Gas Improvement Co. and other gas companies, also acting as expert on gas-holder-tank masonry, 1887-92; assistant su-perintendent of the Omaha Gas Manufac-turing Co., 1892-97; and superintendent of. I. N. Knapp the Omaha Gas Co., 1897-1901. Since 1899he has spent part of his time prospecting forand developing a production of petroleumin southeastern Kansas, where he became asuccessful oil-producer 1899-1902. He wasassigned to the task of making a valuation ofthe gas plant of the Peoria Gas & ElectricCo., Peoria, in their suit in the United StatesDistrict Court against the city of Peoria,1901. In 1902 he was appointed engineerfor special work in the general superintend-ents department of the United Gas Improve-ment Co., Philadelphia, Pa. In December, 1901, the Stevens Instituteconferred upon Mr. Knapp the full degreeof Mechanical Engineer.
