Santa Eulalia Basilica, Merida, Spain, 2007. The church of Santa Eulalia, built in the 4th century on the site of a Roman temple, was completely rebuilt in the 13th century. Merida was founded by the Romans in 25 BC, under the name of Augusta Emerita, as a colony for veterans of the Vth and Xth Legions.
