A photograhic image of geographic tongue also called benign migratory glossitis These are small white or yellowish plaques that develop on the tongue They gradually get bigger and shed cells in the centre leaving red patches surrounded by thickened white borders The patches grow together forming figures with curved outlines The disease may persist for months or years It causes a burning or itching feeling made worse by food and is often linked to stomach and intestine problems especially in children
