Moses found by Pharaoh’s daughter in River Nile bulrushes, plus the anticipated rebuilding of the Third Temple in Jerusalem: two scenes related to the history of Judaism and the Hebrew Bible / Old Testament depicted in modern stained glass in a window of the Oude Kerk or Old Church in Delft, South Holland, Netherlands.

Delft, South Holland, Netherlands: the Finding of Moses or Moses in the Bulrushes, above the rebuilding of the Third Temple in Jerusalem - two biblical scenes in modern stained glass created for one of the windows lighting the Dutch city’s medieval Oude Kerk or Old Church. The Finding of Moses, also known as Moses Saved from the Waters, is a story in the Hebrew Bible or New Testament Book of Exodus of how the daughter of an Egyptian Pharaoh discovered the future prophet, as a baby, lying in a papyrus basket among River Nile reeds. The Rebuilding of the Temple, or Third Temple, refers to a Temple (hypothetically) rebuilt in Jerusalem to succeed the Temple of Solomon or First Temple, destroyed during a Babylonian siege, and the Second Temple, destroyed in a siege by the Romans. Although the Third Temple has never been built, the concept and desire for it is sacred in Judaism, particularly to Orthodox Jews. According to the Hebrew Bible, the Jewish prophets called for its construction to be completed either before the Messianic Age, or in tandem with it. The Gothic former Roman Catholic Oude Kerk, founded in 1246, is Delft’s oldest church. A devastating fire in 1536 and the Dutch Thunderclap, a massive gunpowder explosion in 1654, destroyed all of its medieval stained glass; most of the windows were then either bricked up or filled with plain glass. A total of 27 new stained glass windows were inserted as the church underwent years of restoration beginning in 1949. Renowned stained glass artist Joep Nicolas (1897-1972) was responsible for 25 of the colourful designs, with the final two completed after his death. They depict Dutch historical events as well as biblical stories.
