The Market. Tlie aftermath of the Memorial day business resulted in little better condi- tions than those of the previous week. The cut flower business proved a poor profit-making investment, and, were it not for the bedding stock and blooming plants, most of the shops would have little on the right side of the ledger to show for all the work. The home-grown stock brought the best returns; the carnations and roses which were shipped in were so soft that little waa gained on them. While most of the growers moved their stock, the store men were loaded with unsold stock. It becomes more manifest, as the years roll by, that Mothers' day will take the place of Memorial day. The new gen- eration does not seem so interested in Memorial day as it might be, and the day is given over to pleasure, instead of to showing reverence for the de- parted heroes. Various Notes. The Helmcr Flower Shop had some nice gladioli and early outdoor flowers. Business has been holding its own. The Century Flower Shop entertained a "transom" visitor last week. The receipts of the day had been left in the register, which was quite fortunate for the uninvited guest. The Scottwood Greenhouse had an- other nice wedding last week, in which many orchids were used. Planting business is at its height at this store. Mctz & Bateman, Scottwood Green- house and the Century Flower Shop all did a big business
