Souvenir of the Bethany Indian Mission . Rev. 0. A. Str0m 5107 Franklin Ave., Cleveland, Ohio. What the Bethany Indian MissionHas Done for Me MY name is Harry Thunder. I am a Winnebago Indianboy, 17 years old. This is my second year at the Beth-any Mission. Before coming here I spent two years at agovernment Indian school. Altho I learnt many things atthat school, it did not do nearly so much for me as theBethany Mission has done for I had not stayed long at this school before I noticed thatthe spirit of the school was different. At the former schoolwe obeyed thru fear of punishment. Here we are taught toobey because it is Gods desire that we should do that whichis right. I did not feel so much at home in that school as I do inthis one. Here we have Christian people to care for us andteach us. I am very thankful to the mission for this. But my greatest reason for liking this school is that hereI was taught to love Jesus and to believe that He is mySavior who has redeemed me. The Government School nevermentioned these things. At this school we hear the Word of God every day, and sing hymns of prayer and praise to Himmorning and evening. During the first year that I was here I was taught theWord of God, and I was very interested in learning it. I hadnever seen a Catechism nor an Explanation belore I camehere. After having received instruction thru the year, I wasbaptized and confirmed. I shall never forget that day.
