Islands of Orkney, Scotland. Picturesque view of the ramparts and ditch remains of the broch village at Gurness. Dated somewhere between 500BC and 200BC, this Iron Age settlement lay covered by earth and undiscovered until 1929. The settlement is considered as one of the best preserved examples of a broch village. Now a popular tourist attraction the ancient settlement is managed by Historic Scotland and is open to visitors at specified times.
