Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Pseudomonas koreensis, Gram-negative, aerobic, motile (polar flagellated), pigmented, rod-shaped bacterium (prokaryote). Pseudomonas koreensis is a soil bacterium that was isolated from farming soil in Korea. A biosurfactant-producing strain of Pseudomonas koreensis has been shown to significantly reduce potato late blight disease in greenhouse test trials. This strain of P. koreensis could eventually be used for the biocontrol of the pathogenic fungus (Phytophthora infestans) that causes the potato blight. Potato late blight disease is one of the most destructive plant diseases worldwide. Magnification: x5,335 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.
