In some girls it is a very thinmembrane, which tears very readily; in others it isquite tough. On the upper margin or in the centerof the hjTQen there is an opening which permits anysecretion from the vagina and the blood from theuterus to come through. In rare cases there is noopening in the hymen, that is, the vagina is entirelyclosed. Such a hymen is called imperforate (notperforated).
