Wooden staircase up the steep cliffs of Tortel, Patagonia, Chile

The last road section of the Carretera Austal reach Tortel in 2003. Tortel is one of the most remote towns in Southern Chile and is distinctive for being road free, due to its steep hills and dense vegetation. 15 kilometres of boardwalks link the towns houses and waterfront. Boats to Glacier Jorge Montt leave from the town.
