Moore, the inventorsfather, was a minister of thePresbyterian Church, and anuncle, Col. William G. Moore,was the Private Secretary ofPresident Andrew Johnson. A-mong his maternal ancestorswere Sir Arthur Johns and theEarl of Gray. His great greatgrandfather was Col. ArchibaldOrme, a member of Gen. Wash-ingtons staff. Mr. Moore was educated in the public schools of Pennsylvania, theMoravian Parochial School, Ulrichs Preparatory School and Lehigh Uni-versity. He alsohad charge of the mstallatiou and trial cruise of the first war vessel to besteered by electricity. He told of his experiences in an article published inFrank Leslies Magazine in 1893. In 1894 he organized the Moore ElectricalCompany and later the Moore Light Company, and was Vice President andGeneral Manager of both companies for eighteen years, at the end of whichtime the Moore Light interests were absorbed by the General ElectricCompany. Mr. Moore early developed an absorbing interest in inventions.
