On July 17, 2018, the couple won a one year battle with the Mount Dora City Council to keep the van Gogh inspired art work on their wall and home. The code enforcement dispute began when the homeowners hired an artist to paint a wall outside their home in the likeness of van Gogh's painting "The Starry Night" as a means to calm their 25 year-old son who is autistic and loves van Gogh's work. The house was painted several months later in a similar fashion. Fines of $100 per day were imposed for violating the city's sign ordinance.
