The iconic Cristo Redentor, Christ the Redeemer statue is lit by the early morning sunrise atop the mountain Corcovado. The Christ statue was voted one of the seven wonders of the modern world in 2007. It was designed by Brazilian Heitor de Silva Costa and was inaugurated in 1931 having taken years to assemble.
