The outside petals are just tinged With a sug- gestion of brown and the whole flower is the personification of royal magnificence. The perfume is delightful. But it is not alone the marvelous beauty of the flower that has made this flower so interesting that the blooming of one is an event in a town, but the fact that it only deigns to open its fair chalice in the darkness of the night and closes forever be- fore the light of morning approaches.
