The trophiesraised by Marius to commemorate his victoriesover Jugurtha and the Cimbri and Teutoni, whichwere cast down by Sulla and restored by JuliusCaesar, must have been in the city. (Suet. Jul. 11.)In the later times of the republic, and under theempire, the erection of triumphal arches was themost common way of commemorating a victory, many of which remain to the present day.[Arcus.] We find trophies on the Roman coinsof several families. The annexed coin of Philus is an example ; on the reverse, Vic-tory or Rome is represented crowning a TROSSULI. [Equites, p. 472, a.]TRUA, dim. TRULLA (ropvvr]), derivedfrom tpuo>, to/>o>, &c, to perforate; a large andflat spoon or ladle pierced with holes ; a annexed woodcut represents such a ladle, adapted to stir vegetables or other matters in thepot (Schol. in Aristoph. The ladle here drawn wasfound in the kitchen of the house of Pansa, atPompeii.
