Indemnity was demanded from the Coloniesfor those officers of the crown who had suffered from the late riots; andboth New York and Massachusetts granted them full compensation. But the joy of the Americans was of short duration, for in little morethan a year, another act was passed by parliament, imposing duties on alltea, paper, glass, paints, and lead, that should be imported into the Colo-24*.
