A system of human anatomy, general and special . the anterior layer of the deepperineal fascia, corresponding with the position of Cowpeis glands. FASCIA OF THE UPPER EXTREMITY. 291 a funnel-shaped process back-wards, which invests the com-mencement of the membra-nous urethra and the prostategland. The inferior segmentof this funnel-shaped process continued backward be- *neath the prostate gland andthe vesicula? seminales, and iscontinuous with the recto-vc-sical fascia of Tyrrell, whichis attached posteriorly to therecto-vesical fold of perito-neum, and serves the important office of r<in its proper situation. Between the two layers of the deep perineal fascia are situated, therefore, the whole extent of the membranous portion of the urethra, the compressor urethras muscle, Cowpers glands, the internal pudicand bulbous arteries, and a plexus of veins. Mr. Tyrrell considersthe anterior lamella alone as the deep perineal fascia, and the poste-rior lamella as a distinct layer of fascia, covering in a considerableplexus of taining that duplicature FASCI/E OF THE UPPER EXTREMITY. The superficial fascia of the upper extremity contains betweenits layers the superficial veins and lymphatics, and the superficialnerves. The deep fascia is thin over the deltoid and pectoralis majormuscles, and in the axillary space, but thick upon the dorsum of thescapula, where it binds down the infra-spinatus muscle. It is attachedto the clavicle, acromion process, and spine of the scapula. In theupper arm it is somewhat stronger, and is inserted into the condyloid * A side view of the viscera of the pelvis, showing the distribution of the perineal andpelvic fascia?. 1.
