Plaice (Pleuronectes platessa) young fish only a few weeks after settlement, UK.

Fish is approximately 33mm ( inches) from front of mouth to end of tail. This suggests it is less than 6 weeks since it settled on the seabed. The reddish threads are the long slender gills of the bristle worm Cirratulus cirratus, the main body of which is buried or otherwise out of shot. A hermit crab is also present.
