The Main Synagogue, Marlet street, The Major Jewish Quarter, 12th-14th centuries. Barcelona The Call was the quarter where the Jewish community lived in the medieval Barcelona. It was known by this name from 12th century. The word "call " means narrow street or lane and it came to designate the whole set of streets inhabited by the Jews, that is to say, the Jewish quarter. The community of Jews was called the "aljama".
