The city of San Francesco has a long history with important Roman, medieval and Renaissance remains. Giotto's construction site has marked the art of all of central Italy. Located in the central-eastern part of Umbria, Assisi is located on the slopes of Mount Subasio and dominates the plain crossed by the Topino and Chiascio rivers, tributaries of the Tiber.
