Personnel from RSN and Navy worked together throughout the day doing preliminary dives at a depth of 20 feet prior to the ship getting underway for training on deeper dives. Singapore divers were paired with American divers, and they walked through the differences and similarities of their procedures prior to the first dive so everyone knew what to expect throughout the dive. The dives were part of exercise Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) 2006. CARAT is an annual series of bilateral maritime training exercises between the United States and six Southeast Asia nations designed to build relationships and enhance the operational readiness of the participating forces.
