Barrens Buck Moth (Hemileuca maia) Overwintering egg ring on Blackjack Oak (Quercus marilandica) twig after ice storm. This species flies in the fall and lays eggs in a ring on a twig of foodplant that overwinter. This egg ring was photographed in Feruary after ice storm at the Goat Hill Serpentine Barrens a Pennsylvania State Forest Natural Area.
