Kofukuji Temple Garden - Kofukuji is a Rinzai sect temple with a mountain gate and bell tower from the Edo period. The Japanese garden on the temple grounds was designed by modern gardener Yutaka Fukuzumi, who is currently based in Yamanashi Prefecture. In the process of researching the gardens he designs, he learned about this temple and visited it for the first time in 2023. Yutaka Fukuzumi studied under Iida Juki a representative landscape designer of Tokyo in the Showa era who advocated the "miscellaneous tree garden style", before going independent. In the center of the temple grounds, in front of the main hall, there is a pond garden. The view from the approach to the temple gate to the edge of the pond is dominated by maples, giving it the atmosphere of a natural forest, while the pond is surrounded by revetment stones that are fun to look at, and the stream stepping stones at the water's edge, earthen bridges, and more are all wonderful examples of the craftsman's work in this wonderful Japanese garden.
