Pelican eel (Eurypharynx pelecanoides). X-ray of a section through a pelican eel, with a fish in its stomach (upper centre). Pelican eels are deep-sea fish rarely seen by humans. They have an enormous mouth with long, slender jaws (nearly horizontal in this image) that allow it to swallow extremely large prey. This specimen measures 51 centimetres in length.
