Mr. Deane Freeman, who succeeded his father on the25th March, 1826, is a magistrate and deputy heutenantfor the county of Cork, and served the office of highsheriif in 1811. At the installation of the Knights ofSt. Patrick in 1809, he was an esquire to the Earl Hmeage. The family of Deane is an ancient one inIreland, and has long possessed large es-tates in various parts of that it was of consideration in Eng-land, and held lands in the counties ofGloucester and Northampton. So early asthe fifteenth century we find Dr. Deane,Archbishop of Canterbury, and other mem-bers of the family, receiving proofs of royalfavour, and acquiring, in Ireland, propertyof great extent and value. In the followingcentury, Richard Deane was Bishop of Os-sory, and at the same period, the estateswhich have descended in a direct and un-broken succession to the present Mr. DeaneFreeman were possessed by his the civil wars, in England, thefamily of Deane embraced the popular prin-ciples of the day, in a great measure im-pelled to that course by the influen
