Thereis not a hamlet in the United Statesin which the newspaper does notenter, and scarcely a neighbor-hood. With the modern tele-graphic communications, the} areable to place before their readersthe occurrences from almost everypart of the world within a few hours after takingplace. As a disseminator of news, the press is in-dispensable; as an educator, its influence is im-measurable. Mahaska County has been notably acounty of newspapers, and the press of to-day isamong the largest and ablest in the State, and Iowahas more newspapers, in proportion to its inhabit-ants, than any other State in the Union.
