The engines illustrated in Figs. 7and 8 have cylinders 36 inches and78 inches diameter and a stroke of6 feet. They work with a boilerpressure of 180 pounds and their fulleconomical load is 3,750 indicatedhorse-power with a 30 per cent, over-load margin. They have rope rimsof 30 feet grooved for 64 ropes ofi^4 diameter and the wheel weighs129 tons. The air pumps draw fromjet condensers and are of double-act-ing displacement type. The milldriven by these engines contains 103,-000 spindles and 2,000 EFFICIENCY IN ITS RELATION TO THECONSUMER By H. F. Stimpson EFFICIENCY is the topic of theday. Few, however, compre-hend what its meaning is, whothe persons are whose capacity in thisrespect is susceptible of developmentor what its development means tothat most important person, the con-sumer.
