This image may not be used to state or imply ESA endorsement of any company or product October 2016 Central Italy earthquake. Satellite radar map of the region of central Italy struck by a earthquake in the early hours of 30 October 2016. This image combines a Copernicus Sentinel-1B radar image from 26 October with a Sentinel-1A radar image from 1 November. This allowed researchers from Italy's Institute for Electromagnetic Sensing of the Environment to analyse ground displacements caused by the earthquake. Ground deformations extended across an area of about 130 square kilometres with a maximum displacement in the area of Castelluccio (red). This earthquake was one of a number that struck central Italy during 2016. This work was co-ordinated by the Italian Department of Civil Protection in collaboration with Italy's National Institute for Geophysics and Volcanology. Image published on 2 November 2016.
