Cope (1900, p. 995) notes a specimen (no. 10,729) in the U. S. national museum from Livingston county, N. Y. 15 Natrix kirtlandii (Kennicott) KirtlancVs snake Jordan. Clonophis kirtlandi Head very small; not distinct from body. Scales very strongly keeled, in 19 rows. Above, light red- dish to purplish brown, with four rows of large darker blotches on back and sides; beneath, pale brick red, with black spots. Length 16 inches. Recorded by Ab- FiS- !6 Natrix kirtlandii t>ott ('68) from New Jersey, but the identification apparently doubted by Nelson ('90).
